Homer, AK

The featured image is of Homer Spit.. the main harbor, restaurant and tourist shopping area in this beautiful city. Dwarfed by the surrounding mountains, this small town is worth the long drive off the main highway to reach the end of the peninsula.

With the exception of the spit, this view is exactly what they had looking out the back windows of their rigs, parked on the cliff edge just north of town. Though it rained their second day, they could still see the expanse of water, fishing boats headed out to sea, and the resident bald eagle soaring.

The “silvers” (silver salmon) were just starting to arrive and Cliff tried his hand at capturing one of these huge fish.

… and was successful!

Ok, it wasn’t quite this big, but it WAS pretty big!

The four celebrated with lunch at Homer’s famous “Captain Pattie’s” where they enjoyed clam chowder, halibut tacos, ling cod and chips, a seafood sampler and baked halibut. Delicious lunch for a rainy day!
