Celebrating Donna’s Birthday in Prince George, B.C.

A special day! They celebrated Donna’s birthday in Prince George, starting with a walk through Cottonwood Island Park, a long riverside trail (except for the part that ran into the river – likely the victim of high water) that delights its visitors with (almost) hidden treats.

It was eagle-eyed Donna who kept finding them. With each turn there seemed to be something new and the four of them appreciated the craftsmanship of the artists who took time to carve the 12 trees, set up the gnome garden and decorate the Canada tree.

But the highlight of the day, of course, was Donna’s birthday dinner and a chance to celebrate her on our long journey. She researched and chose CIMO, a Mediterranean grill in downtown PG, and a restaurant that proved to be the perfect choice for all four hungry visitors. They dusted off their cleanest camping clothes and even showered for this big night out. (Picture these decadent dishes: chicken stuffed with Brie and Portobello mushrooms, served on a bed of mashed potatoes; buffalo ragu; chorizo penne; and artichoke-mascarpone ravioli). It also turned out to be “wine night” (!) so a half liter that worked generously for Mary and Donna was only 9.50 Canadian ($7.30).

They returned to the RV park for leisure conversation and birthday cake, a special gateau au toffee. Very fun day for all.
